Ingredients:
- 1 cup moong dal (split yellow lentils)
- 2 cups water (for boiling the dal)
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1-inch piece of ginger, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh coriander (cilantro), chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup boiled and chopped green beans
- 2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter) or oil
- 1 teaspoon jeera (cumin) powder
- 1 teaspoon chaat masala
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Extra ghee or oil for shallow frying
Instructions:
- Boil the Moong Dal:
- Rinse the moong dal thoroughly under running water.
- In a pot, combine the moong dal with 2 cups of water and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and simmer until the dal is tender and fully cooked. This should take about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain any excess water and allow the dal to cool slightly.
- Prepare the Mixture:
- In a grinder, add the boiled and strained moong dal, chopped green chilies, chopped ginger, and half of the chopped coriander.
- Grind the mixture until it is smooth and well-blended.
- Combine Ingredients:
- Transfer the ground dal mixture to a mixing bowl.
- Add the salt, finely chopped onion, boiled and chopped green beans, jeera powder, chaat masala, black pepper, and the remaining chopped coriander.
- Mix everything well until all ingredients are thoroughly incorporated.
- Shape the Tikkis:
- Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into flat, round patties (tikkis).
- Ensure the tikkis are of uniform size for even cooking.
- Shallow Fry the Tikkis:
- Heat a tawa or a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Add a small amount of ghee or oil to the tawa and let it heat up.
- Place the tikkis on the tawa and shallow fry them until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides. This should take about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Add more ghee or oil as needed to prevent sticking and ensure even frying.
- Serve:
- Serve the moong dal tikkis hot with chutney or yogurt on the side.
Enjoy your delicious and nutritious moong dal tikkis!
